I've decided to make a flash short about a samurai bear ,I know original right lol :innocent:
Story board is 100 % done.
Flash short will be around 2-3 minutes .

So it's about a "samurai bear" who hates rain ,and that's all you get to know right now :D.

I'll update this when I get more finished.

the run cycle seems a bit jumpy, might need a few more frames to make it easier on the eyes? I like the design and the idea loads though!

Like T said, the run needs some moar frames. Just to be smoother. I liked the close up, it was drawn well. The last part when he gets into a stance, I think there needs to be more movement on the body. Everything just seems to just stop. The stuff from his eyes should fade out or something. Adding more frames easily fixes that. Somehow I get the feeling you know this and just wanted to upload. I like the shadows btw.

Yeah I was tweaking the run cycle quite a bit because it came it out wrong all the time and
I don't want to add more frames because I want it to seem fast .
I still don't like it though.
the stance just stops and I didn't finish animating the smoke coming from his eyes either..that's just me being lazy

I was just working on it and thought fuck it I'll upload it and update it along the way.

yeah but making it too glitchy ( not having enough frames ) will make it hard to see.. which will make the viewer not recognize it as fast.. maybe play with the spacing of the frames a bit.

for example:
space the frames in a way that theres a large gap between a bunch of lifting the foot- frames and putting that foot down-frames, giving the illusion of moving the foot forward in a fast motion. then you have the majority of the frames on the contact positions and as little as possible on the passing position part.
it might work. IMO the theory seems like it should work, but I might be wrong ofcourse, hehe

@ tom ,I've tried that when i was tweaking the run cycle ,I wasn't too happy about the result.
I'll just leave it alone for the moment.

@edyrem just a random cut during battle ,which tears apart his clothing.
there is a reaon for that.which you'll see later on

I"m going to try to do things differently and focus more on animation than cleaning lol..

Looking good so far bro, I wonder though, if that guy already kneeling down isnt awkward, maybe you should have him ducking during the time the other guy runs towards tim to make it more interesting?

Omg I love the way you angled the second scene.
The flow from when he jumped to the clip where he's in mid-air really felt right.

So you've got a little bit of a back story, eh?

Also, have you looked at videos of bear footage to see if you can notice any bear quirks, expressions, or movements that you can add to this samurai?

Update:added a push ,and continued where i left off.

the story is actually pretty lame ,but i figured it needed one regardless,
that way they're not fighting for no reason.

I haven't looked at videos of bear footage yet,but I'll do that .though I doubt I'll use some movements since this bear walks on 2 feet ,has a sword on its back and has clothes on lol.

Looking good. One thing that I think could be fixed is the position when the blue guy pushed upwards. Liven it up. The way he comes up seems a bit unrealistic. Gona be great when you clean it up and add the inbetweeners.

Have you ever played the Legend of Kay? It reminds me of some bear enemies in that. I don't really like the detailed version, but the update looks good.

@mr.Jones I'm not satisfied with that either ,I'm going to replace that shit later.

@darkjesus No I haven't,but I'm sure there are lots of characters that look similar to this bear.
It's basicly short legs+ long arms and torso.It's been done many times before .

Can you be more specific about what you don't like about the detailed version ?So i know what to focus on next time :)
Is it the animation ,caracter design or maybe the style ?

This bear shit is the shit. He's got that goofy look about him, but I'm guessing you're gonna Oda it up and unleash his power for all to see. We'll never look at that bear the same way again.
His technique looks a little rough around the edges, seeing as how he kind of fucked up a fundamental by stepping out of the way of the attacking guy by sidestepping in the direction that would make it harder to counterattack with the sword. Samurai Bear doesn't look quite close to endgame yet. Badass development? Make it happ'n, Hai-Tamuuu!!!! I wanna see that red mofo in pieces next time around! Are those eyes merely for show?! Awaken! Surely he has the advantage of not possessing human movements and characteristics, wiping out the skill of human anatomy targeting for assassins! Get his ass in the training room.

For one to awaken one must be pushed to it's limits....otherwise it's meaningless to awaken.
Don't worry he will go ape shit on the red guy...
I'm thinking about exagerating everything (like ground being smashed ,trees being cut in half),and making them insanly strong.
First I was going for more realistic battles because of the style,but now i'm thinking fuck that lol.
What do you guys think i should do ?

Also I didn't say I animated in chronical order.that shit coming out of his eye is actually part of his awakening ,just like how some manga's leave eye trails or let them glow ahaha.

I also favor the spikey samurai's animations most in this WIP :P

But why wouldn't you put SOME bear nature in there?
You're basically saying he's standing, uses a sword and wear clothes, so he might as well not have bear characteristics. So it might as well be a guy in a bear suit. :(

At least, you know, let his lip be sloppy like a bear's, perhaps. Or read a little about bear combat, and how they behave, and you could include the way bears false charge (charge then stop to scare) into your samurai, I don't know.

Another idea I thought of is making the bear much less like a real ferocious bear in his normal form, like, make his mouth less extended, nose more like a button, etc. Then in awakening mode, he could be much more primal/feral, perhaps walks on all fours, his features become totally ferocious and he uses his claws and mouth? Maybe that's something that happens when he reaches a certain situation, and it's not necessarily his awakening mode, but some other circumstance.

Perhaps in his awakening mode his face becomes what is between his normal mode and feral mode.

Just throwing ideas out for you :P

maybe I will use this in the form of feints in combat,

I've decided to skip the running on 2 legs,and make him run on 4 legs (with his sword on his back)to make him seem more speedy ,at the same time he uses his claws to fight.and when he draws his sword he stands up , is slower(not necessarily slow,just slower)and is more powerful.
I've got his awakening mode already set though.

the reason why I didn't want bear like movements was because I already had a storyboard in which he had no bear like traits except for looking like one(and I looked at him as if he was a samurai not a bear). since I'm starting from the ground up ,it doesn't matter anymore.
