It's good to see that you've found you're weakness and are now working on fixing it.
You found that you should be focusing on movements more, just keep in mind that you should be always thinking of the final picture as a whole while you're focusing on one piece of your method at a time.
...to make that seem a bit more visual, say this is your process:
movements > sketch backgrounds > clean up > colorize > paint/finalize backgrounds> etc.}
Now, all this without thinking of your final piece throughout your methods = something you totally were not visualizing at all
So to fix that, I find that sketching down that quick scene or idea onto a piece of paper or in a quick painter document, whatever you got, (if it's a bit more of a sequence, that's what storyboarding's for) it doesn't have to be too complex, something that'll just help remind you of that idea you pictured so well at the time it was fresh. This will continue to keep that idea fresh in your head throughout your methods of animating.
It's all about wiping that window as spotless as you can possibly get it so your audience can have a clear vision into your head!
...but when it comes to thinking of the final picture, that's up to you.
